Roma loses against Atalanta at home by a point.

Roma Loses

Jan. 7 (Reuters) – Paulo Dybala of Roma saved Sunday’s 1-1 Serie A tie against Atalanta by scoring a first-half penalty. Dybala is an Argentine.

After eight minutes, Teun Koopmeiners, an Atalanta midfielder, gave the visitors the lead by finishing off a wonderful ball from Alexei Miranchuk.

But six minutes before the half, Dybala equalized from the penalty spot after a VAR review resulted in Matteo Ruggeri awarding a penalty for a foul on Roma defender Rick Karsdorp.

Just before the finish of the match at the Stadio Olimpico, Atalanta had a chance to take the lead again, but Nikola Zalewski, a midfielder for Roma, gave a foul, negating Gianluca Scamacca’s goal.

After Romelu Lukaku was fouled, Roma coach Jose Mourinho resisted the officials and was given a red card during stoppage time.

With 29 points, Roma is ninth in the rankings and has lost their last four league games. They are four points behind Fiorentina, who are in the top four, and one point behind sixth-place Lazio and Atalanta.

In Roma’s narrow defeat to Juventus Turin, midfielder Adrien Rabiot of France scored the only goal for his team. Romaa has only won once in their last three games, so Mourinho is presumably concerned with the way the squad is playing and will be looking for a win to climb the standings.

Contrarily, Atalanta has won three of its past four games to pull one point clear of its opponents in sixth place. After taking the lead through a goal from Ademola Lookman in the second half, the Italians defeated Sassuolo 3-1 to win the Coppa Italia.
